There are so many hiking trails for a number of different skill levels. Be sure to look into The Cup and Saucer, Bebamikawe Memorial Trail, Bridal Veil Falls, Gordon’s Park, Nimkees Trail, M’Chigeeng Trail amoung others.

Bridal Veil Falls is gorgeous and has a nice little hike to get to it. You can swim there on hot summer days – the water is always fresh and cool.

It’s a great place to take the kids. Here’s a great video that goes into detail about some of the things to do with kids.

  • Best times are from August to October and winter, from 11pm-3am.
  • Use the app “Aurora Forecast”
  • Check here to forecast for a clear night sky.

There are two Alpaca farms that you can visit on Manitoulin Island; Lobo Lobo Alpaca and Island Alpaca.

Located at the lighthouse near Meldrum Bay on Manitoulin Island are several short trails that follow the craggy shoreline over flat limestone ledges. Get up close to enormous boulders, wildflowers and birds. The trails offer beautiful views of Lake Huron.

Manitoulin Island is surrounded by Lake Huron and the North Channel that provide excellent angling and is filled with 108 freshwater lakes. Some of the most popular species you’ll find include rainbow trout, jumbo perch, whitefish, lake trout, walleye, northern pike and salmon.

McLean’s Park is located on Manitoulin Island in the Township of Assiginack. This 100-acre park features four beautiful trails that run through the woods, all groomed for snowshoeing. What makes these trails stand out is the variety of forests including deciduous and evergreen. There is signage throughout identifying the different types of trees. Some of these trees, like the ironwood, are only found in a few spots on Manitoulin.

Visitors don’t have to worry about bringing their own snowshoes here as the park has over 100 pairs for rent.

Garden’s Gate Family Restaurant in Tehkummah is an antique farmhouse turned restaurant, surrounded by flowerbeds, an organic herb and vegetable garden. The chefs’ focus is on food prepared from scratch with locally grown organic meats and produce. Over 50 craft beers from Ontario’s microbreweries, and Vinters Quality Alliance wines from Ontario’s smaller wineries.

Opened seasonally so call ahead.

If you are into beer, you will not be disappointed with Manitoulin Brewery Co. Haweaters’ Brew is one of my favourite lagers. They have a great little patio to enjoy a pint or flight, but it’s not a restaurant.
